Of Goddesses and Women (Sahitya Akademi, 2021) is Rao Garg’s first collection of poetry. The book houses verses that had been written over a decade. A section of this collection is about the world visited by divine women, the titular goddesses, and other sections are musings of motherhood, pop culture, art and even poetry.
“She pierces the obvious with such intensity it leaves me shaking my head in wonder with a little envy and a ton of respect. There is something very edible about Shweta’s choice of words, and the alacrity of her deeper understanding of what makes us tick. It is both funny, prescient and slightly horrifying, which I think is the truest language of a poet worth reading.” – Candice Louisa Daquin, “The Divine and the Ordinary in Shweta Rao Garg’s Poetry”, Lapis Lazuli: An International Literary Journal, Vol. 11, No. 2, AUTUMN, 2021.
“In this collection, the human passion, the lyrical style, the narratives, invigorate promise of a new canvas in each poem with their pan-Indian identity with unvarnished truths of life.” – Navamalati Chakraborty, Foreword, Of Goddesses and Women, 2021.
